ABOUT GEOTECH DRILLING

Geotech's Legacy of Innovation and Adaptability

Geotech Drilling boasts a rich history in geotechnical drilling in New Zealand. Founded by Gary and Cathrine Barnett, the company's journey began in 1990 with the acquisition of its inaugural rig, originally from the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand (ECNZ) which Gary helped to design and build in 1981. Initially intended for the construction of transmission pylons, this first rig was also tailored for complete geotechnical site investigations.

Equipped with one of New Zealand's pioneering Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) systems, along with hollow stem augers tailored for remote operations where water accessibility was limited, this rig exemplified Geotech's commitment to innovation and adaptability in challenging environments.

Since the company's inception, this inaugural rig has journeyed alongside numerous trucks, symbolising commitment to mobility, efficiency and sustainability. Moreover, the continuous investment in upgrading equipment, ensures that Geotech remain at the forefront of the drilling market.

Forward Momentum

In June 2007, Geotech underwent a transition in ownership, with Mark and Mel Barnett taking the helm. Their aspiration was to continue the legacy of the successful family business, with Mark following in his father's footsteps.

Under this vibrant and youthful leadership, the company's trajectory was set to evolve.

Geotech Drilling has constantly been at the leading edge of the Geotechnical industry, having the latest, most advanced drilling methods, rigs and continuously updating the logging and interpretation software, in order to deliver even more precise and efficient geotechnical solutions to suit client needs.

A Journey of Knowledge and Commitment

Mark's journey in drilling began at a young age, learning the ropes from his father. His extensive experience and passion for the industry drive his commitment to sharing valuable knowledge and expertise with both current and prospective clients, fostering enduring relationships built on trust and excellence.

Alongside his wife, Mel, Mark guides Geotech Drilling, instilling a family-centric ethos into the company's core. With three teenage children, their dedication transcends mere business success, fostering a culture of unity and shared values within the Geotech family.
